In reply to Vijay G. I agree that it is important to go to someone you can trust rather than just anyone. Therefore, yes, finding a buyer that is legit is key. For instance, they should be members of the Jewelers of America. When it comes to examining their equipment, they may not let you. Some of it is very expensive and they probably won't let just anyone handle it. Although, a way around this is to ask them to examine the piece in your presence.
