Hi Georgina,

Yes, this is absolutely accurate. And, you’d be surprised about getting a cash deal at Best Buy. Last year I posted a picture on the Money Peach Facebook Page of how I was using cash at Best Buy to get a deal on a microwave. I asked if they had an open box item and they did. They brought it out and I noticed a small scratch on the back of the unit. I asked them how much for the scratched open-box microwave and they told me $120. I countered $100 CASH and walked away with a microwave.

You’re not wrong for thinking you won’t get a deal at a place like Best Buy when using cash. However, you’ll never know if you don’t simply ask. 🙂

I bought a whole furniture set in cash once because and debated whether I should finance it. I told the dude I had cash but the price didn’t seem to change a bit. I still bought it in cash and I’m sure I got ripped off! I also don’t think this cash deal wouldn’t work at, say, Best Buy. I get the point of the article but unfortunately, I don’t believe that cash always trumps zero financing (especially when sales reps are getting spiffy for financing.) I wish it did though! If you know a good trick to this, please share.
